A Brief Biography of the 12th Gyalwang Drukpa
His Holiness the 12th Gyalwang Drukpa was born in 1963 at Rewalsar, India. In 1966, His Holiness was officially recognized as the 12th Drukpa. His father, Kyabje Bairo Rinpoche, a venerated Nyingma Master, and his mother, Mayumla, are both from Tibet. His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa is an accomplished lineage Master in both the Sarma and Nyingma schools of Tibetan Buddhism, which includes the Mahamudra and Dzogchen teachings. His Holiness is responsible for several monasteries, nunneries, schools and clinics in Ladakh, Darjeeling, Nepal and also many centers throughout Europe, and in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Mexico City, and Peru.
The impact of His Holiness’ simple and direct teaching ( in English ) is profound, and has inspired a great many people throughout the world in their spiritual practice. Those who have already had the great good fortune to meet him feel, above all, personally and deeply touched by his great wisdom and compassion. The Drukpa lineage is now celebrating its 800th anniversary.
